Grand Master Wan Lai Sheng
Shaolin Liu He (Six Harmonies)
Liu He Men or Six Harmonies Kung Fu is a branch of Yue-style Shaolin Gong Fu (also known as Kung fu). It combines soft and hard, internal and external techniques. The Six Harmonies system is based on the theory of six combinations: internally, cultivate essence, energy and spirit. Externally, cultivate hands, eyes and body. This training aims to develop an ideal state of health, protect the body's energy and attain combat skills. This leads to a superior level of martial arts skill, total freedom of defence, a healthy body and a long life.
'Eyes go with the mind, Mind goes with the Qi, Qi goes with the Body,
Body goes with the Hands, Hands go with the Feet, Feet go with the Hips.'
Grandmaster Wan Lai Sheng practised Six Harmonies Kung Fu before he started practising Ziranmen. As he deepened his knowledge of martial arts, he continued developing and refining his Six Harmonies Kung Fu skills and style. He then created a curriculum of Six Harmonies forms that he believed were the most effective for developing martial arts skills. Therefore, Wan Lai Sheng's Liu He Men curriculum can be considered as the foundational study of martial arts.
Shaolin Six Harmonies is a martial arts practice that focuses on muscle and flexibility training. Students learn a variety of Liu He form sets and continue to practice until they are able to apply the techniques in real combat situations. The Six Harmonies system includes many different form sets, some of which are more commonly taught than others.
