Liu He Tang Lang (Six Harmonies Mantis)

Liu He Tang Lang Quan (Six Harmonies Praying Mantis Boxing) is the third major school of Praying Mantis Gong Fu, along with Qi Xing Tang Lang Quan (Seven Stars Praying Mantis Boxing) and Mei Hua Tang Lang Quan (Plum Blossom Praying Mantis Boxing).

The special characteristic of this school is its use of continuous vertical (and sometimes horizontal) circles, which permit striking, trapping or defending. This system shares the same philosophy as the Shaolin Six Harmonies system regarding the structure of its movements (the six harmonies) but has a different set of forms and drills.

The fast vertical 'running hands' allow a range of offensive and defensive techniques. Arm strikes to the opponent can use the edge of the hand or the forearm. Circling hands, combined with advancing steps, provide speed and Jin (power).

Liu He Tanglang involves soft forms practice but fierce combat application. Although it is possible to use soft applications, the tactics are very direct and fierce. The fundamental tactics involve unbalancing the opponent and striking them in vital points. Additionally, the tactics may include locking up joints or throwing the opponent. The cleverness is in the way the body is used as a unit. This is the meaning of Liu He, the six harmonies - moving the body as one unit and unifying body, mind and spirit.
